NAMAQUALAND FLOWER TOURS
For most of the year it seems as if the Namaqualand region is unable to support any but the toughest and the most enduring forms of life, but the seemingly lifeless soil sustains more than 4000 floral species. Namaqualand Daisies (Dimorphotheca sinuata), mesembryanthemums, perennial herbs, aloes, lilies and a host of other species create a tapestry of indigenous spring flowers which are unparalleled anywhere.

Day 1
Depart from George at 8:30 for Clanwilliam via Tulbagh‘s “Paddagang”. Clanwilliam is synonymous with rooibos tea, the Cedarberg Wilderness Area and velskoene (handmade leather shoes). Dissels valley was renamed in 1814 after the Earl of Clanwilliam, the father-in-law of Governor Sir John Cradock.
Situated high up in the Piekenierskloof Pass and nestled within the Cederberg mountain range. Piekenierskloof Mountain Lodge enjoys a majestic view of the Oliphant’s River Valley and offers the splendours of the Cederberg, from a wide array of bird life to a vast diversity of flora. (D, B&B)
Day 2 & 3
After breakfast we shall depart for Springbok. The picturesque 'capital of Namaqualand' is nestled in a valley between the granite domes of the Klein Koperberg. Springbok owes its existence to copper and the strong spring around which the village grew.
Outside Springbok is the stark and strikingly beautiful Goegap Nature Reserve. Much of it is a jumble of gigantic dome-shaped granite hillocks and quiver trees. In spring it provides stunning wildflower scenery. It is also home to 45 mammal species, a succulent garden, hiking trails, mountain bike trails and a 4x4 route.
Other towns in the area which we shall be visiting are the picture-postcard Kamieskroon, Garies and Port Nolloth.
Outside Kamieskroon lies the Skilpad (tortoise) Wild Flower Reserve. It is renowned for its stunning wild flower displays even when the rest of area is a bit disappointing.
Skilpad owes its beautiful displays to its excellent high-lying position -
high enough to catch the coastal moisture-bearing fog!
We shall be staying at Mountain View Guest house in Springbok for two nights. (D,BB). A stunning guest house for the discerning guest who is looking for style, tranquillity, luxury, comfort and the hospitality of the Northern Cape. Mountain View Guest House, as its name aptly describes, is situated high on the hill overlooking the picturesque and bustling Northern Cape Town of Springbok.
